How the monthly photo is built

Each frame is a per-pixel median of every Sentinel-2 pass over Indore that month (bands B4/B3/B2 = red/green/blue, 10 m/pixel). The median quietly drops cloud and shadow pixels. Cloud filter: scenes with <30% cloud; relaxed to <60% / <90% for monsoon months (Jul–Sep) when clear scenes are scarce, so those frames are noisier.

Scanned the full 28.6 × 27 km AOI (3 km past every ward edge). Almost all clusters sit on Indore's east / peri-urban fringe — that's where construction is actually happening (Super Corridor, Bicholi, Mundala, Bilawali), not a coverage gap. Turn on “AOI bounding box” below to see the scanned extent.

How clusters are found

We take Google Dynamic World's per-pixel land-cover labels and build a “mode-built” mask for two windows — baseline = all of 2023, current = the rolling last 90 days. A pixel counts as built in a window if ≥50% of that window's scenes labelled it built. New-built = current AND-NOT baseline. Connected blobs of ≥10 pixels (~1000 m²) survive a noise filter and become polygons. Each polygon is spatially joined to the ward it falls in.
